A preschool piano book for teachers of ages 3–6

Short answerToddler Piano Book Level 1 is a reusable, dry-erase piano book for students ages 3–6 that keeps reading and writing to a minimum. Students work on ear training, rhythm, steady tempo and keyboard patterns, then families repeat the page at home for 10–15 minutes a day. I sell single copies for $129 and quote studio and class sets of 10 or more.

A preschool piano book built for ages 3–6

Teaching piano to preschoolers is different from teaching a 7 year old. Most can't read yet, attention is short, and a lesson goes best when it is mostly listening, moving and playing. Toddler Piano Book Level 1 is made for that age: little reading and writing, picture-based pages, and short activities a 3 to 6 year old can repeat until they own them.

Why teachers use it

  • Minimal reading and writing. A natural language approach keeps the focus on ears, eyes and hands.
  • Reusable. Laminated, dry-erase pages mean each student can circle, mark and redo a page, then wipe it clean for next week.
  • Built-in progress tracking. The tempo ladder runs from #1 (40–60) to #5 (90–100), and students circle what they finish or draw a smiley face.
  • Whole-keyboard work. Students listen, explore the whole keyboard and match visual patterns up and down the instrument, so they don't depend on key stickers.

What's inside Level 1

  • Rhythm instruction page and song and technique instruction page
  • Montuno Prep: moving up and down (U/D) and left and right (L/R) on the keyboard
  • Hot Cup of Tea: a word rhythm with quarter notes and a triplet
  • Sing & Play: Hot Cross Buns and Mary Had a Little Lamb, both hands
  • Look & Play: 5-note patterns, hands together. “Use your eyes, always count up or down.”
  • Tempo ladder: #1 (40–60) up to #5 (90–100)

Pages are front and back, laminated, spiral bound and dry-erase. Dry-erase markers are included, and video tutorials show how to teach each page.

Practice between lessons: a parent take-home routine

With preschool piano students, what happens at home between lessons matters as much as the lesson. Toddler Piano Book is written so a parent can sit beside their child for 10–15 minutes a day, even with no music background, using the video tutorials to see how each page is taught.

Send families home with the page you worked on that week. They repeat it together, the child marks what they finished, and you see the circles and smiley faces at the next lesson. I wrote up the full 10–15 minute parent–child routine you can share with parents.

Questions teachers ask

How do you teach piano to preschoolers?

Keep it short, physical and mostly by ear. Start with listening and moving up and down the keyboard, tap rhythms before playing them, sing and play simple songs, and repeat the same activity many times. Toddler Piano Book Level 1 is organized that way, with pages a 3 to 6 year old can redo on dry-erase.

What age can a child start preschool piano lessons?

Toddler Piano Book is made for ages 3–6. Young children can start with short, playful activities like singing and playing, matching patterns and tapping rhythms, when the lesson needs little reading.

Is it good for group preschool piano classes?

Yes. The activities work one student at a time or as a group taking turns, and each student can have their own wipe-clean copy. For 10 or more copies, request a quote.

Do parents need a music background to help at home?

No. The book uses a natural language approach, and video tutorials show how to guide each page.

Will I need any other materials?

Yes, two things. First, a metronome. I recommend a wind-up (mechanical) metronome. If you don't have one, free phone apps or web metronome apps work, for the sound only. Second, something to clean off the dry-erase marker writing.

How much do 10 or more copies cost?

Bulk orders are quoted per order. Tap “Request a quote for 10+ copies” and send your name, organization, number of copies, ship-to city and state, and the date you need them, and I'll reply with a quote. A single copy is $129.

Do you accept purchase orders or invoices?

No. I print each order after it is paid, so payment is due before production. I don't accept purchase orders or net-30 terms.
